Case Settlement Win for Strict Compliance of Plywood Standards Litigation in the Federal Court about potentially unsafe building products has ended in a major win for strict testing and compliance regimes following an out-of-court settlement between the EWPAA and Jag Ply Pty. Under the terms of settlement, Jag Ply has agreed to immediately cease machine stress grading, labeling F-Grades and making claims that products comply with Australian Standards. In addition, Jag Ply has agreed to a product recall by way of refunding the sale price of unused plywood sheets to customers upon return to Jag Ply. Federal Body Warns Against the Use of High Emission Wood Panel Products
The federal body responsible for the assessment and safe use of industrial chemicals has advised construction workers and wood panel users against the use of products that contain formaldehyde exceeding the low emission limits of E0 and E1.
JAG Ply Court Case Update - Trial Adjourned until December 8, 2008

commence on December 8.
Illegitimate Use of the JAS-ANZ symbol
Samples of imported formwork plywood, falsely labeled with the JAS‐ANZ accreditation symbol, have
failed tests for bonding quality, reliability and safety carried out by the Engineered Wood Products
Association of Australasia (EWPAA).

Chinese Non-Compliant Formply
A SYDNEY unit development has been shut down by the NSW Work Cover Authority in a breakthrough
test case against the use of imported non‐compliant formply in building construction.
Imported Underlayment Plywood Risks - Must Read Document !
Testing by the EWPAA and DPI & F has confirmed that there has been a significant increase in quality issues and premature failure of high value strip floors and flooring systems due to use of imported, non-certified underlayment plywood.
It is essential that building designers, specifiers, flooring layers and home owners are urgently made aware of the significant risks associated with the use of this low cost substitute product.
LVL Buckling Report
This report details the results of a series of tests on LVL beams to observe their buckling behavior and compare
the behavior with that predicted by the design rules of AS 1720.1. The results indicate that for slenderness ratios greater than 10, the design method in AS 1720.1 results
in a significant underestimation of moment capacity.
