Harvesting in pine plantation

Young plantation pines ready to be planted out

Wood Panels are derived from a renewable resource and as the wood used for these panel products is first reduced to small particles, flakes or fibres, a wide range of wood source and quality can be utilised.

The production of hardboard utilises residues from sawmilling operations and pulpwood logs. Pulpwood comprises either defective logs (distorted or damaged by fire or insects) unsuitable for sawmilling, or thinnings from forests being managed for sustained yield.

Other Wood Panel products utilise waste offcuts from sawmills and thinnings from pine plantations. Plantation thinnings are part of a planned, integrated operation which uses the whole crop over the typical 40-50 year growing cycle.
